In 1976, Helmut Newton published White Women. With this volume of 81 black-and-white and color photographs, Newton introduced radical nudity and eroticism to the world of fashion. Newton’s contemporary vision finds resonance in art history, such as The Naked Maya and The Clothed Maya by Francisco Goya, which can both be seen at the Museum del Prado in Madrid.
His controversial images revolutionized fashion photography aesthetics, while both reflecting and commenting on the changing image of women in Western society.
